Many people have asked how to meditate and this becomes part of my teachings with my groups. To me, meditation is the bread and butter to instilling peace within and in this lies an absence of fear. By releasing fear we add more love to our lives and this leads to great joy! This may sound an advertisement for some wonderful product but Meditation is something we all can do any time. It does not have to be saying OOOOMMMM in a dark room! We can meditate when we garden, paint, long walks. I used to meditate when I threw pots on a wheel, it was a wonderful time of harmony as the clay talked to me.
What is meditation?
In yoga we call it union, when all bodies and chakras align into one energy of harmony. When all chakras spin in balance, the kundalini, or energy rises up the shushuma, and we have full union with creation. This is called samhadi.
Few actually reach that place but if you do, it is life changing. For a time you become ONE with all creation. You can feel a blade of grass growing, the energy of the stars and so on. Its what meditation is teaching you to do. And its small steps. If we meditate every day for ten minutes or so regularly it does make a difference. In time we don't do meditation, we are the meditation! We live it in ways that brings calm and focus when it's needed.
In this Meditation section I will share with you a few techniques and methods I have useful. These are some I do with my groups and all have said how helpful they have been.
In this first introduction though, I would like give you an outline of how to meditate, a check list. Stick it on your fridge!
Meditation check list
What is meditation?
Meditation creates stillness then Union with all selves
, Union = balance ~ balance creates harmony, wellness, joy
How do we meditate?
The process
1. Decision intent and focus ~~ ‘I am going to meditate now’
2. Environment ~~ same time, same place, same setting, rug,
same ambience as same music, same candles or aromatherapy oils
3. Preparation ~~ prior preparation to prepare body-mind as simple stretching or exercise, slow breathing, alternate nostril breathing to balance nadis
4. The process ~ surrender, trust, feel love and joy.
“I am beginning to meditate”
:
1. Body balanced eg back straight, hands in lap, lotus or what suits
2. Breath into stillness
3. Focus, awareness of your body finding harmony, lightness, mind more still. If it wanders bring it back to the breath
4. Feeling stillness and peace – the Inner harmonic
5. Meditation practices begin here- mantra, breath, symbol, visualisation.
6. Stillness, inner silence. Let the breath deepen into almost stillness
7. Watch the space in front of your closed eyes. Allow the images to come and go - be detached, no thought or questions, allow allow, you are only an observer. Detachment, acceptance and love.
8. Gradually be aware of your environment. Deepen your breathing. Take your time. Feel the floor under you, the warmth of the room, sounds if any.
9. Deep breath and stretch
10. Be here, be back be aware of yourself. How are you feeling? Ground yourself by drinking water and walking around. Do a few stretches.
In the beginning its a good idea to write down how you are feeling and read it over time as you add more. Its interesting to see how we evolve with the practice.
In the next sections in this forum, I will add two powerful meditation techniques you may like to try and if i can find it, I will include an article I wrote about reaching samadhi.
blessings for this journey
I hope others here add their meditations too. It is wonderful to share these practices so others can use them too.
